The Ice Age has arrived! You must see the great new Ice Age exhibits at the museum. Hurry down as they are only here for about 6 months. The replica skull of Dee, the largest mounted Columbian mammoth in North America, is back! Joining Dee is the replica of Dima, a baby Wooly mammoth, found in Siberia frozen in the tundra; Dima is one of the few complete mummified baby mammoth specimens ever found. In addition to the mammoths you will see a huge bison skull replica, giant ground sloth skull replica, saber tooth tiger skull replica, and a dire wolf skull replica. Also see many fossils in our exhibits of Ice Age Man in North America, North Sea Fossils, Ice Age Plants from Missouri, and the The Ice Age and its Megafauna.
Coming Soon!!!
Mammoth Hut under construction in our exhibits. Take a jouney back in time and see how some Native Americans built their houses during the Ice Age. Used during the Ice Age (Pleistocene Epoch) by Paleolithic hunter gatherers in Central Europe, these dwellings date back some 15,000 years and were determined to have been some of the oldest shelters known to have been constructed by pre-historic man. Mammoth bones once formed the foundations and frameworks of houses built when wood was scarce and the shelter of caves unavailable.

TEACHERS, 4-H leaders, Scout Leaders,
We received a wonderful grant that allowed us to put together exciting "Teacher Trunks" that can be checked out to share with your students or groups. Some of the fun titles include: Furs and Skulls, Civil War, Lewis & Clark, Structural Geology, Dinosaurs (Prehistoric Life), Native Americans, Rocks and Minerals, Forests of Missouri, and Symbols of Missouri. Check them out and have fun.
Adopt an Artifact Program
Would you like to help the Bollinger County Museum preserve and protect our precious artifacts? If so, Friday April 20, 2012 will give everyone an opportunity to do that. Visit the museum from 12p.m (noon) to 4:30p.m and select the artifact you would like to help preserve and protect.
Bollinger County Museum of Natural History invites visitors to explore the wonders of history and culture from around the world through our extraordinary collection of artifacts. Only a small portion of these artifacts are on public display at any one time, but the rest still need proper housing and care.
Now you can help the Bollinger County Museum to properly care for all the artifacts in its collection by “adopting” one of your own favorites. All funds raised from adoptions will support the preservation, storage, and management of our artifacts.
Adopting an artifact provides you with a certificate of adoption, a photo of the object, as well as detailed information about its significance, and makes a great gift for loved ones.
School groups can also “adopt” an artifact and continue learning about its wonder back in the classroom. In addition to the standard benefits, school groups will also receive student activity worksheets.

Adoptions: $35-$400
Benefits vary with level of adoption
For more information about the benefits of the “Adopt an Artifact” program, call the museum at 573-238-1174, email us at bcmnh@sbcglobal.net
