The Ice Age

Dee the Mammoth

Dee is the largest mounted Columbian mammoth in North America and was found in Wyoming. Age dated at 11,600 years old, Dee would have stood about 14 feet high at the shoulder and weighed about 10 tons! An adult mammoth, the size of Dee, would have to eat 700 pounds of vegetation a day and as Dee’s teeth wore down with age, the mammoth would be unable to consume the large amount of food needed to sustain it. Dee was 65-70 years old at the time of death and probably died from starvation; a common cause of adult mammoth death. See the full size replica skull of this famous mammoth.
