New Equipment for the Lab

Thanks to the grant from SBC, the lab now has an air abrasive tool that will be used to clean many types of fossils.  The air abrasive tool is basically a micro sand blaster unit capable of removing delicate fossils from solid rock.

We also received a digital microscope that will be used to find tiny microscopic fossils in the sediments from the dinosaur site. Previous searches have revealed the bones and teeth of amphibians and fish that were previously unknown from the site.

Dinosaur Skeleton Donated

The skeleton of the Cretaceous dinosaur Psittacosaurus was donated to the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History by fossil collector, Mervin Feick.

The skeleton is from the Cretaceous Period and was found in Mongolia. A life-size model of Psittacosaurus will be created to be exhibited with the skeleton in the dinosaur gallery on the second floor.  A big thanks goes out to Mervin Feick.

Museum Lab Operational

A milestone was reached for the BCMNH when our lab was used for the first time to clean the bones of the Missouri Dinosaur. Here crew member Mike Fix removes bits of clay from dinosaur bones recently found at the Chronister Site.

New ADA Entry

The Museum has a new entry that provides an ADA compliant, street level entrance with the additional benefit of double doors which make it much easier to bring large exhibit pieces into the building. Interior finishing is in progress on the new exhibit area just inside the doors.

AT&T Check presented to BCMNH

State Senator Jason Crowell presents Museum board president, Eva Dunn, with a check for $2000 from AT&T. The corporate donation was received as a result of recommendations by Speaker Rod Jetton, Missouri House of Representatives and Senator Crowell. Left to right in the photo are Dixie and Charles Hopkins, Dave Thomas, Jason Crowell, Eva Dunn, Rod Jetton, Jeanie Troy and Earl Vogel.
