September is Missouri Archaeology month. Explore our Corbin collection of Native American Mississippian pottery.
Mr. Corbin spent much of his life discovering Native American artifacts that were plentiful in our region. He traveled to the American Southwest for digs and also spent a lot of time at Wickliffe and (Illinois) digging up history.
The fish is frequently found as an effigy on bowls and jars and was used more often than any other animal. The importance of fish as a food supply may explain its popularity on Mississippian vessels.
